Logan Elm School District offers the following communication regarding the Federal Law, No Child Left Behind.
- The District rewrote its Continuous Improvement Plan during the 2008-2009 school year. The District Leadership Team was led by the State Support Team and used data from staff to determine goals, strategies, and action steps.
- “Adequate Yearly Progress” (AYP) was met by Logan Elm District, Logan Elm High School, Laurelville, Pickaway, Salt Creek, and Washington.
- “Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) was not met by:
· McDowell Junior High (Students with Disabilities subgroup in reading and math).
- Report Card Ratings August 2009 (issued by the State Department of Education) for all buildings and district are:
- Logan Elm District – Effective, Met AYP
- Logan Elm High School – Effective, Met AYP
- McDowell Junior High – Continuous Improvement, Missed AYP (School Improvement Year 3)
- Laurelville Elementary – Excellent, Met AYP
- Pickaway Elementary – Effective, Met AYP
- Salt Creek Elementary – Effective, Met AYP
- Washington Elementary – Excellent, Met AYP

- No school buildings in Logan Elm District were designated as “persistently dangerous.”
- For helpful information regarding academic content standards, state assessments, and supporting your child’s learning, parents may visit the Website: www.OhioAcademicStandards.com.
- You have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of classroom teachers as defined in the “Highly Qualified Teaching” component of No Child Left Behind (including licensing requirements for grade level/subject; if the teacher is teaching under an emergency status; type of degree/field of discipline; and Title I paraprofessional qualifications). Contact the district at 474-7501 if you would like this information. If you request this information, the district will provide it as soon as possible.
- Parents are encouraged to help the district develop or revise the district’s Parent Involvement Policy. The purpose of the policy is to integrate all the parent involvement strategies, activities, and services for programs that may be offered at our schools.
- Logan Elm District supports a partnership between schools and parents. Various responsibilities of the schools include: provision of high quality curriculum & learning materials; provision of assistance in understanding academic achievement standards and assessments and how to monitor students’ progress; provision of opportunities for ongoing communication between parents and teachers through annual parent-teacher conferences, frequent reports regarding student progress, and provision of opportunities to talk with staff, volunteer in class, and observe classroom activities. Various responsibilities of parents include: encouragement of students attending school regularly, encouragement of students showing positive school behavior, review of students’ homework, monitoring of television watching and encouraging positive use of students’ extracurricular time, volunteering in schools and classrooms if time or schedule permits, and attending parent-teacher conferences.
- No Child Left Behind requires that Logan Elm must, upon request, provide to military recruiters, colleges and universities, access to the names, addresses and telephone listings of secondary students. A secondary student or his/her parent or guardian may request that the student’s name, address, and telephone number not be released by the district. If you would like to make such a request, please contact your child’s school.
- The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their child’s education records. Parents have the rights to inspect and review the student’s education records maintained by the school; to request that a school correct records believed to be inaccurate or misleading; and to control the disclosure of their child’s personally identifiable information from their education record. Parents must make written requests regarding these rights. For more information please contact the District Office.
- The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) offers parents or guardians of students of all ages the opportunity to limit certain types of information about your students that is made public, often referred to as “Directory Information.” The primary use for Directory Information by the District is to include this type of information in certain school publications. It is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released. Examples of school publications are: a school program; a yearbook; academic recognition lists; graduation programs; or sports statistics. If you do not want Directory Information released about your student, please contact your child’s school.
- Laurelville Elementary qualifies to receive federal funds under the No Child Left Behind Act for 2009-2010. Laurelville is designated a School-wide Title I Program.
